Proposals
Bluecastle are seeking to redevelop the former M&S building to create an outstanding mixed–use development, which will contribute to the regeneration of Birmingham City Centre while helping to address local housing needs.
If the planning application is approved, construction is expected to start in late 2027, with completion targeted in early 2031.
The emerging plans include:
- A new landmark building of 52 storeys
- Approximately 700 new build-to-rent homes
- New publicly accessible restaurant, cafe and retail space
- Reducing the building footprint by 50% to allow for a significant contribution towards the Council’s long term regeneration and greening ambitions for the city centre
- Widening Carrs Lane, creating a generous tree-lined pedestrian link
- Better pedestrian routes into and around the site
- A wide range of energy and sustainability features, including a low carbon heating and cooling strategy
- A long-term commitment and investment in this part of Birmingham
